KZ-GEDENKSTÄTTE DACHAU
A visit to the Dachau camp memorial is essential to understand the horror of the Nazi concentration camp system.
The Dachau camp was the first of a long and sad line of camps built by the Nazis. It was indeed built in the first months of 1933 by the future head of the Gestapo (from 1934), Heinrich Himmler. The figures are chilling, as more than 200,000 people were officially imprisoned there and 41,500 prisoners lost their lives. Several types of visits are offered: guided tour or audioguide. The historical and political events that led to the "Final Solution" are explained.
