KEHLSTEINHAUS (EAGLE'S NEST)
The famous Eagle's Nest, built for the 50th birthday of the Führer to receive his distinguished guests.
On the heights of the Obersalzberg, at an altitude of 1,834 m, on the side of the mountain, stands the Kehlsteinhaus, better known to French speakers as the "eagle's nest". The French ambassador François Poncet was so impressed during his visit that he nicknamed the stone chalet clinging to the wall. The name has stuck, used in English and French, but not much in German. But the fame of this exceptional natural site goes back much further than the Third Reich. As early as the 18th century, people came to admire the exceptional view of the Alps and Salzburg. As a birthday present for the Führer's 50th birthday, this "eagle's nest" was built in twelve months (completed in October 1938), a record time for such a difficult construction (avalanche risks, snow, temperatures). A team worked there day and night. Although Hitler did not reside there (he lived in the Berghof a little further away), it was there that his distinguished guests were accommodated. Today, an exhibition informs about the history of the Eagle's Nest, the remaining rooms are now used as a restaurant.
Hiking. To get there on foot, it takes 1.5 to 2 hours from the Ofnerboden car park, and even longer from the Obersalzberg car park. At least 4 hours round trip. Please note that it is not possible to climb by bus in snowy weather and that you must be well equipped for hiking to go up on your own. The shuttle buses stop at the end of October and sometimes earlier, depending on the weather conditions.

C'est vraiment impressionnant avec l'aspect historique des lieux et la vue magnifique.
Ne reste toutefois qu'une brasserie.
