BURG ZU BURGHAUSEN
Burghausen Fortress is known as the longest castle in the world.
Burghausen Castle, perched high above the town, dominates the town and the Salzach River. Its 1,051-meter length has earned it a place in the Guinness Book of Records as the world's longest fortress. It was here in Burghausen that the family treasure was kept, and it was in the apartments that the dukes' heirs lived. Its most famous inhabitant is the wife of Duke George the Rich, the daughter of the King of Poland, Hedwig: a famous couple whose wedding is re-enacted every four years in Landshut, in a great popular festival.
