NEUPFARRPLATZ
This square, on which the church stands, was Regensburg's Jewish quarter in the Middle Ages.
In the Middle Ages, the Jewish quarter of Regensburg was located in the heart of the city and corresponded to the size of the square: synagogue, mikveh, rabbinical court and about 40 houses were located there. In 1519, upon the death of Emperor Maximilian I, who had always been known for his benevolence towards the Jews, the situation degenerated. Without further explanation, the Jews were simply expelled from the city, and the district was destroyed. A strange modern monument was erected in memory of this event.
