KIRCHE ST. PETER
Beautiful late-Romanesque church built in Straubing in 1180, with 2 Romanesque tympanums, a Romanesque statue and a superb pietà.
This beautiful late Romanesque church was built in 1180 on the ruins of an ancient Roman site. It stands austerely to the east of the town centre. It has two Romanesque tympanums as well as a Romanesque statue of Christ dating from around 1200 and the superb pietà made around 1340. In the cemetery adjoining the church, there is the Gothic chapel, Kapelle Unser Lieben Frau, the Agnes-Bernauer-Kapelle with its red marble epitaph and the Seelenkapelle, Church of the Soul, known for its beautiful frescoes representing the dance of the dead.
