SYNAGOGE ANSBACH
The synagogue in Ansbach is one of the few baroque synagogues in Germany that have survived to the present day.
Rather discreet on the street side, you have to know where it is to identify it. This synagogue was designed by Leopold Retty between 1744 and 1746, who was the chief court architect of the Margrave of Brandenburg-Ansbach. It is one of the few synagogues from the Baroque period that are still in good condition today. It was damaged during the Kristallnacht but survived further destruction. A further attraction is the courtyard outside the building, where there are remains of a mikveh, the place for ritual bathing.
