KÄTHE WOHLFAHRT - WEIHNACHTSDORF
A den of Christmas decorations, a small fantasy world open all year round to immerse yourself in the magic of Christmas.
You'll soon notice it in Rothenburg: Käthe Wohlfahrt is everywhere! And with good reason: this is where the whole story began in 1977... Of all the addresses, this is without a doubt the most spectacular Christmas Village! At the entrance, a giant nutcracker greets you. Once you've passed through the door, you're in a den of Christmas decorations, a little fantasy world open all year round to immerse you, whatever the season, in the enchantment of this beautiful end-of-year moment. Fans of kitsch - be warned - it's shiny! The centerpieces include the plush-animated painting in the entrance hall, and the huge fir tree standing proudly in the middle of the store (too bad you can't photograph it!). Yes, if the place is like a museum, it's first and foremost a store where you can find everything you need for your Christmas decorations: traditional nutcrackers, golden baubles, cuckoo clocks, etc. Also worth discovering: wooden "Christmas pyramids", unknown in France. They come from the Ore Mountains (between Saxony and Bohemia) and replace the traditional Christmas tree.
German Christmas Museum (Deutsches Weihnachtsmuseum). A Christmas museum - a real one this time - awaits you upstairs: to learn about the history of Christmas and the evolution of its celebrations in Germany: from the establishment of the date December 25th in the 4th century to the appearance of Santa Claus.
