SAINT-KILIAN CATHEDRAL
The Romanesque cathedral - dedicated to St. Kilian, the apostle of Franconia - also displays Gothic and Baroque elements.
It took two centuries to complete the construction of Würzburg Cathedral (1040-1237), which still has Romanesque lines, although it was modified later. Around 1500, the side naves were remodelled in the late Gothic style. The interior was stuccoed in 1701-1704 in the richest High Baroque style. The Schönborn Chapel in the north transept is one of the works of Balthasar Neumann. The cathedral is dedicated to St. Kilian, a missionary and apostle of Franconia.
