ALTE HOFHALTUNG
Historic complex housing the Bamberg History Museum, with its charming inner courtyard surrounded by half-timbered buildings.
The Alte Hofhaltung (High Palace) stands on the site of a former 11th-century fortress. This historic Renaissance complex was the residence of the prince-bishops of Bamberg before the New Residence was built across the street. From the Schöne Pforte, the "beautiful gate", the visitor enters the charming inner courtyard surrounded by half-timbered buildings, which in summer hosts the Calderon Festival. The courtyard is also an ideal location for film shoots. Inside the buildings is the Bamberg History Museum.
