SCHLOSS WEISSENSTEIN
The village of Pommersfelden was chosen by the Bishop of Bamberg and Elector of Mainz to build a Baroque palace.
The small village of Pommersfelden, about 20 km south of Bamberg, was chosen by Lothar Franz von Schönborn - Prince-Bishop of Bamberg and Prince-Elector of Mainz - to be his summer residence. As a testimony to this period of splendour, the castle can be visited and reveals its treasures inherited from the baroque style: majestic staircase, hall of mirrors, etc. The Schönborns still own the residence today and manage vineyards in Lower Franconia. The castle gardens are also worth a visit.
