BURG POTTENSTEIN
The medieval fortress stands on a rock above the small town. The view over Pottenstein is magnificent.
Built on a rock, the medieval fortress, one of the oldest in Franconian Switzerland (it is over a thousand years old!), rises above the picturesque little town with its half-timbered houses. The climb up to the castle is very steep, but the effort will be rewarded by a beautiful view of Pottenstein and the surrounding countryside. A visit to the castle itself is not really necessary: the museum is rather old-fashioned. Instead, you can climb a bit more on the cliff, to get above the fortress.
