SCHLOSS EHRENBURG
A superb neo-Gothic palace to discover the princely lifestyle of the famous Dukes of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha.
This sumptuous neo-Gothic residence looks like something out of Downtown Abbey. It was built in the 16th century when the Dukes of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha decided to move from the Coburg Veste to the city centre. In the 19th century, the palace was remodeled in the neo-Gothic style by the talented Prussian architect K. F. Schinkel. The most beautiful room in the palace is undoubtedly the Riesensaal ("Hall of the Giants") with its ceiling supported by no less than 28 statues representing Atlas, the titan of Greek mythology.
