SCHLOSS ROSENAU
Superb neo-Gothic castle. Prince Albert, King Consort of England, was born there.
Prince Albert of England - Queen Victoria's famous husband - was born here in 1819. His father, Ernest I of Saxony-Coburg-Gotha, gave the sumptuous residence its neo-Gothic appearance. The completion of Rosenau Castle was celebrated in 1817, on the occasion of the marriage of Duke Ernest I to Louise of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg, with a jousting tournament in costume on the meadows in front of the castle and a costume ball in the marble hall. The Marmorsaal and the orange grove in the gardens are well worth a visit.
