NEW CASTLE
It was the residence of the margraves from 1753. The garden behind is worth a walk.
From 1753, this palace was the margraves' residence. A fire at the Old Palace (Altes Schloss in Maximilianstraße) made it necessary to build a new palace, which Wilhelmine was able to furnish to her taste. You can visit the two wings (the gentleman's wing and the lady's wing), the Gemäldegalerie (a collection of paintings) and a small museum on the first floor devoted to the history of Wilhelmine and the Margraviate of Brandenburg-Bayreuth. The Hofgarten, the castle garden, open day and night free of charge, is well worth a visit.
