The Romanesque church of St. Peter, the oldest in Lindau and one of the oldest on Lake Constance, dates from the 11th century. Two major attractions for visitors are the frescoes by Hans Holbein the Elder and the famous Lindauer Passion depicting the Passion of Christ. The church was dedicated to Simon Peter, the patron saint of the fishermen who once lived around Schrannenplatz.
From here it is possible to walk to the Diebsturm or thieves' tower, which was Lindau's prison and dates back to the 14th century.
