This tower, symbol of the city and its fortified wall, was erected in the 1420s as a watchtower and was inhabited until 2014! The tower owes its name (Fünfknopfturm) to the five turrets that crown it: the main spire and the four corner towers. Today, it offers an exceptional view of the city and gives it quite a character. The shield on the eastern facade was installed in 1917: it shows the flags of the countries allied to the German Empire during the First World War: the Ottoman Empire, Bulgaria and Austria-Hungary.
