HOHES FRIENDENSFEST (FÊTE DE LA PAIX)
This peace festival has been unique since the 16th century: it is a public holiday only in the city of Augsburg!
The Hohes Friedensfest (literally "High Peace Festival") is special enough to be mentioned: it is the only city-specific holiday in Germany. Its origins date back to the Peace of Westphalia in 1648, which marked the end of the oppression of the Protestants during the Thirty Years' War. The Protestant population of the free city of Augsburg celebrated its first Peace Day on August 8, 1650, to celebrate their newfound freedom of worship.
