The town hall is the most emblematic building in the city. Imposing Renaissance façade on the square.
The Town Hall was built between 1615 and 1620 in the Renaissance style. It perfectly embodies the power and might of the city's patricians. Its 57 m façade is adorned with a 4 m high pine cone, the emblem of Augsburg. Upstairs, the Goldener Saal, with its superb frescoes and walnut ceiling, is open to the public. Completely destroyed by bombing in 1944, the ceremonial hall was rebuilt between 1980 and 1990.
