WELFENMÜNSTER
Entirely Romanesque church in Steingaden, with Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque interiors
To reach the church, you have to pass through the old cemetery that surrounds it. The exterior of this 12th century sacred building is entirely Romanesque, but the interior reveals a short journey through the history of sacred art: Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque, all of these styles are present and form a harmonious whole. On two of the columns in the central nave, there are statues of Welf VI, the founder of the old monastery, and, opposite, of his son Welf VII. The cloister can be entered through the side door.
