HEILIG-KREUZ-KIRCHE
Baroque Catholic church built between 1717 and 1720, preserving a fragment of Jesus' crucifixion cross.
The Catholic church, a former Benedictine abbey, was built by Josef Schmutzer of the Wessobrunn school in the Baroque style. It was built between 1717 and 1720 not far from the banks of the Wörnitz. The "Holy Cross Church" owes its name to a relic preserved in the Gnadenkapelle (Chapel of Grace): it is believed that a shard of the cross on which Jesus was crucified was preserved here in the 11th century and that this relic was the reason for the foundation of the Benedictine abbey.
