A medieval castle which is due to the Hohenstaufen dynasty.

This imposing building dominates the whole city. It takes about ten minutes to walk from the old town to the castle. The construction of the castle began in 1150 on the initiative of the Hohenstaufen emperors. In 1299, it became the property of the Princes of Oettingen-Wallerstein. The tour takes the visitor on a discovery of its many towers. The light-coloured facade is dotted with small windows and offers a fantastic view of the valley below. On the programme: the coat of arms, the fortifications, the prison..

Powerful Harburg is one of the best preserved castles in Germany. It is mentioned for the first time in 1150, including possession of King Henry III. It was built to protect trade route between Augsburg and Nuremberg. In 1295 it passes to the hands counts of Oettingen.Les counts of Oettingen-Wallerstein are the owners since 1731.

The castle was protected by high walls with round itineraries and a double system doors. On the inside door, you can still see the portcullis wooden with iron points. Around the inner courtyard together inn, the large room with village hall, the princely building, the chapel and the keep of the 13th century (called "Hungerturm")
