Guin New Year: many ancestral rituals accompany the taking of the sacred stone and pay homage to the deities.
It is undoubtedly one of the most important ceremonies of all West Africa. Epé-Ekpé is the occasion for the taking of the sacred stone, the Kpessosso, and marks the beginning of the year for the Guin people. It is usually celebrated in September in Glidji Kpodji. The calendar of the Epé-Ekpé is fixed during the Nma Dumo (corn sowing) ceremony, which takes place on the first new moon of June. After this ceremony, the high priest is responsible for announcing to the traditional priests (hunon) and followers the beginning of the forbidden period, Sedodo.
