This large circular building commemorates the plane crash of January 24, 1974, from which Eyadema Gnassingbé escaped unscathed. For the record, this was in fact an assassination attempt orchestrated by international high finance, following the former president's decision to increase the Togolese state's share in the exploitation of phosphates. The phosphate was then exploited by a private French company. The building houses the carcass of the crashed plane, and a statue of General Eyadema has been erected in front of the building.
