Just behind the mound, there is a lake where hippos splash around. They can be seen around the lake early in the morning, around 6:00 am, or late in the afternoon, from 4:30 pm. During the day, the myriad of hippos submerge completely to avoid the heat, sometimes leaving a pair of eyes to surface. A promontory has been built to observe them. The trail is as admirable as the activity itself, with the rice fields imported by the Chinese decades ago, and still farmed by local families.

The site very pretty and is well preserved. To get there, take the path on the right in facede Cap train station. At the end, the level it water tower, turn left. Then it is always very good, you will pass before the technical school then in front of the military area. Then you will cross the rice fields, after that you will see a sign that reserve hippos is listed (there the track should be taken on the left). Good visit! Beware of the city guides offer the visit to 6000FCFA. A donation to the protector of the site seems more served! Get there quite in medium/end afternoon, morning they enter the water to around 5:00, we went there at 8:00, they were already far in the pond!

It is true that it is necessary to want to go to Nangbeto but the game is worth candles. Just off the dam, around 9:30, we saw 5 or 6 hippopotamuses grazed quietly on the bank. 10 minutes later low back in the water!
