Located on a hill, this former French colonial fort proudly overlooks Houay Xay and its river neighbor, Thailand. It seems that this military post was built in the early 20th century by the French to monitor the newly created border between the Indochinese Union and Thailand. In 2011, the Lao government started a restoration of the site but it seems unfinished. Still, we can get an idea of what the fort looked like at the time. The main bastion offers a magnificent view of the Mekong.
