A long time ago, Sy Sod So Tammikarad, king of Xieng Saen (now Xieng Saen, Thailand) and Naleatafai, king of Chanthabury (now Oudomxay), decided to have two stupa built as symbols of their friendship. One of them was the That Phoum Pouk stupa, the other is this gold-covered stupa located on top of a hill overlooking the city. To the right of the great Buddha is a path that leads into the forest. Follow the road that winds through the latex trees for about 40 minutes to get a nice view of the surroundings.
