VAT PHIA WAT
This temple shelters the ruins, very well restored, of a superb statue of a sitting Buddha. Built in the 16th century, this temple was particularly sacred. It was almost entirely destroyed during the war, then rebuilt. The Great Buddha was also destroyed in 1953 and was rebuilt one year later. This Buddha is wearing a ceremonial cloth, and several Buddha statuettes are on his lap. According to local belief, the Great Buddha was spared from the bombs during the second Indochina war because of its spiritual power.
