The "Elephant Cave" (Tham Xang) is located on a limestone mountain behind the village of Ban Tham. It houses a large golden statue of the reclining Buddha. It is famous for its elephant head which was formed in the stalagmites (behind the golden Buddha) in 1956. It is a place of worship for the villagers, especially during the Lao New Year. Please bring a torch for the visit. It is an excellent viewpoint to admire the sunset over the plains.
