Wat Thong - or Wat Nyutthitham - is a golden monastery that houses stupa containing the relics of the Champassak princely family, including those of King Nyutthitham, who died in 1885, and those of the last king, Chao Ratsadanay (1874-1945). The latter's eldest son, Boun Oum, succeeded him. He renounced the throne in favour of King Sisavang Vong of Luang Prabang. Most of these funerary monuments are in the form of a high pillar surmounted by a lotus bud. One of the most interesting temples of the city.
