About 12 kilometres east of Attapeu, Ban Saysettha (or Ban Xaisetha) is a large, typical village on the north bank of the Se Kaman River and was once called Ban Phang Daeng. There is a pagoda that was built during the time of King Say Setthathirath. It received its present name, Vat Pha Saysettha, on the day the ashes of the King of Lane Xang were placed in the stupa (built around 1577 by his son). This vat is obviously highly revered.
