CAMPSITES
There are 5 community campsites managed by African Parks and the villagers' communities. They offer basic facilities cold showers, water and dry toilets, depending on the camp, non-drinking water, barbecue to cook, but you have to bring food, drinking water, wood or take your meals on the spot with a little advance notice. Everything is prepared in the nearest village and the money goes directly to them in this case.
Kayala Camp (15 to 20 minutes from Kalabo). Just at the entrance to the park near Kalabo, this small camp overlooks a small lake.
Katoyana Camp (2.5 hours from Kalabo). Located near the center of the park, it allows easy access to the forests, pans (floodplains) and plains of the eastern part of the park. Hyenas can be seen walking around at night, and it is not uncommon to see lions and cheetahs around.
Kwale Camp (1h15 from Kalabo). Located in the southern part of the park, it is often surrounded by buffalo, and it is shaded. There is nothing special about it though.
Lyangu Camp (1h15 to 1h30 from Kalabo). It is relatively close to the gate but very well placed as it is close to a large plain where hyenas, lechwe antelopes and wildebeest are concentrated during migration.
Sikale Camp (4-5 hours from Kalabo). The most northern camp of the park is also the one closest to the wildebeest migration, but there are no toilets, showers or water here... For the truly independent traveler!
