It is the only haw-type palace in Burma still preserved. You can find the monument transformed into a cultural museum here in Nyaung Shwe on the Museum road. Would he have given it that name? Built entirely of wood, and raised on a high terrace, it was the home of the last Shan emperor and the first president of independent Burma, Sao Shwe Thaike. In 1948, Sao Shwe Thaike was imprisoned by Ne Win and died in prison. Not the most interesting, but worth a little visit.
