In Ywama, in the centre of the lake, 12 km from Nyaung Shwe, stands the Shan architecture of the Phaung Daw Oo pagoda. Inside, it shelters five local curiosities including Buddha statues made deformed by the layers of gold affixed by devotees. Every year, in September and October, and during fifteen days: festival of the pagoda. On this occasion, four of the statues are moved to the Karaweik barge. The statues stay in different villages on the lake, each time welcomed by processions and dances.
