To the south of the superb Shwenandaw monastery built entirely of teak, the Atumashi monastery dates back to 1857. Built like many monuments in Mandalay decidedly by King Mindon. After the fire of 1890, and its reconstruction in 1995, the original carved wood has unfortunately given way to concrete and paintings... Fortunately, it's a nice harmony: white walls revived by carved door openings, yellow ochre for example. We come to visit Atumashi mainly for its external facades.
