MAHAMUNI GARDENS
Behind Mahamuni, in its gardens, is part of the impressive Buddhist community of Mandalay. A group of 135 monasteries, some of which are made of wood and equal the royal monasteries in their magnificent carvings. It is interesting to take a walk there to observe the monastic life. It is possible to cycle around the monastery, but with shoes off, and perhaps you will attend a novitiate ceremony or the apprenticeship of the little monks in the elementary classes. The most welcoming places are the Payagyi and Lewar Kyaung monasteries.
