At the other end of the bridge, go into the palm grove and you will discover the Kyauktawgyi pagoda, built by King Pagan in 1847. The exterior construction follows the model of Ananda in Bagan, but the interior structure and decorations are atypical. Instead of vaults, they are wooden beams, and the heart of the building has only one main image, carved from a single block of marble. The superb murals represent the various religious buildings of the country and bucolic scenes of Burmese daily life.
