Built in 1113 by King Alaungsithu, in pure Shan style, this pagoda dominates the river. Two enormous skirting boards are camped at the entrance of the building and guard the entrance fiercely. According to the legend, as long as the banyan tree within the pagoda enclosure continues to grow there, the lives of Buddhist devotees will not be threatened. For according to tradition, it is the tree that welcomes the spirits. Afterwards... it is worth a look.
