SHWE-GU-GYI TEMPLE
Shwe-gu-gyi is the very first temple built after the transitional period. Erected at the initiative of Alaungsithu, this small temple is built on a high brick platform. The openings of the ambulatory and the entrance allow light and air to pass through. Note the stucco decorations on the plinth mouldings, pillars and arches. According to the faded inscriptions on the two stone tables inside the temple, it was completed in seven months. Although it is now forbidden to climb it, it remains divinely beautiful from below.
