MAHABODHI PAGODA

Renovated in 1990 by SLORC on the model of Ananda of Bagan, the Mahabodhi pagoda houses, in the many niches of its architecture, no less than 450 statues of Buddha. Its pyramidal shape differs from the architecture of Bagan where the temples are topped with a golden drop. Here you can clearly feel the influence of the Indian temples. And for good reason, this pagoda is said to be an inspired replica of a temple erected in Bodhgaya, India. For your information, Buddhism and spirituality: this temple would in fact symbolize the place of Buddha's awakening.
