YADANA BOM MYINT

The Yadana Bom Myint Monastery is said to have been built 120 years ago. It houses a replica of Buddha's tooth and, incidentally, a tiara set with rubies and diamonds. The tooth and the monumental wooden throne carved with divine birds came straight from Sri Lanka. Woodwork, red and gold, doors and ceilings in the purest Mandalay style, this monastery was built by the will of the widow of King Mindon, Queen Seindon. Taken away from Mawlamyine after the death of her husband, she ordered this construction out of nostalgia for the splendours of Mandalay.
