On the road, on the left, the largest lying Buddha in the world, over 180 m long, is for years at the end of construction, and one wonders whether it will eventually end up. The donation campaign was launched in 1994 by the monk Bhaddanta Kesara. It is an amazing site, a mixture of statues of evil giants and beasts, pagodas and fountains. You get to the Buddha's body by a wide road, which is accompanied by statues of standing monks. The plans were designed by the monk Bhaddanta Kesara himself. The Masonic construction is hollow and will house a chain of retreats, and representations of Buddha's life.

C'était le premier bouddha géant que je voyais et il est très impressionnant!! Ils en construisent un second tout aussi grand juste en face. Lorsque l'on pénètre à l'intérieur, il y a différentes salles avec des peintures murales qui retracent des épisodes bouddhiques ou de guerre. Mais effectivement à l'arrière du bouddha, on voit que ce n'est pas encore terminé. On peut s'approcher assez près de la tête géante et ses grands cils. C'est original comme visite. Et les centaines de moines alignés à l'entrée du site, c'est assez impressionnant.

Bon, c'est gros et impressionnant, oui, mais il faut quand même dire que c'est du béton très moche, que ça vieillit très mal, que les peintures à l'intérieur ne sont pas du grand art loin de là et que pour le reste, à l'intérieur, c'est comme marcher dans un sous-sol de parking. A part ça, pour l'ambiance retraite et spiritualité, il faudra repasser : musique à coin dans les bâtiments en bas... Et puis l'allée de moines, du béton encore... Alors, soyez avertis ! N'attendez- pas du charme et de l'histoire !
