TEMPLE HTUKKANT THEIN
Built in 1571 by King Minphalaung, the temple is located west of Shittaung. Two staircases reach the upper terrace, surmounted by a dome. Small stupas emerge here and there at the four corners of the monument. The interior rooms are illuminated by a line of light coming from the high central room. In the vaulted passageways, one can see sculptures representing seated women, coiffed according to the different cuts fashionable at the court of the Arakan kingdom. In the ambulatory, niches house hundreds of Buddha statues.
