It is a recommended stop on your arrival on the Pebble! In this beautiful colonial house, you will discover the history of New Caledonia, its mixed populations, the major political decisions from 1853 to 1939, as well as the participation of Kanak infantrymen and Caledonian soldiers in the First World War and the historical turning points that the territory experienced, such as the nickel boom between 1966 and 1971. Once the visit is over, you can take a break in the museum gardens, located behind the veranda.

Possede des pièces interessantes, ais la muséographie comme le ménage sont à revoir. Ses salles sombres, mal éclairés ne permettent pas d'apprécier ce musée.

I was very disappointed by the museum of New Caledonia which is in fact a museum of cultures kanaks and Océaniennes. On the contrary the City museum tells both the story of this land and its population before the arrival of European and Européenne colonisation without compromising but without scourging either (I las scourgings). A section is devoted to the exploitation of the spotless and how can we talk about this country reminiscent of the SLN...Interesting, the part devoted to the Americans who during the second WW made of New Caledonia, the first US base of the Pacific. They built roads, airfields, hospital, vaccinated, drained marshes, fought mosquitoes, employee and enriched everyone, New Caledonian and kanaks before being put outside by De Gaulle (not a success), an amazing and unknown work, accomplished in just a few years. We talk about it nowhere else. This museum is to be missed.
