THE TANGHENE VALLEY
The valley is indicated on your right after the bridge, just before arriving at Hienghène. The 6 km trail, lined with coffee and banana trees, runs along the river. The abandoned houses take the horses that graze along the road. On your left, after 3 km, note the large house with a sheet of sheet metal. She belonged to the Japanese and then to the Javanese who came to cultivate the coffee. The house opposite, accessible only in boat, was that of a cattle Rancher. During the events of the 1980 s, the tension between communities was such on the east coast that many whites preferred leaving the region. Land and houses have since returned to the tribe. The trail ends at the common house in the heart of the tribe. According to hours, men are hunting or fishing and women in housework. The phone was installed there only in 1997.
