In Nouadhibou, the International Marathon took place in December 2022 (11th edition, 3 224 participants). The next edition will take place in December 2023. The coordinating team strives to develop sports in schools and for the disabled, to use sport to prevent illnesses caused by sedentary lifestyles, and to use sport to combat discrimination, religious fundamentalism and addictions. In February 2022, the organization of the Nouadhibou Marathon initiated the first edition of the University Marathon of Nouakchott.
