On the night of August 14, in the city of León, the "Gritería Chiquita" is celebrated on the eve of the festivities in honor of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. Between July and August 1947, the Cerro Negro volcano erupted violently, continuously spewing ash over León. For this reason, the diocesan bishop implored the Virgin Mary to stop the eruption and promised to organize a "cry of penance". Surprisingly, on the night of August 14th, the miracle happened and the eruption stopped.
