IGLESIA SAN JUAN BAUTISTA DE SUTIABA
Built between 1698 and 1710, it deserves the movement for its grandiose architecture which overlooks an empty square, béance from a bygone colonial time. Hope construction with indigenous influences (inner arches) and baroque (facade, columns), immense as to welcome the souls, cries, tears and sins of the natives who once inhabited (and still live in part) the district of Sutiaba, so close and so different from the center of the city. Bartolomé de las Casas, the eternal defender of the natives, preached there on several occasions (the place also bears his name). This church is open in the morning from until (except Thursday) and evening from 17 am to 19 PM. Not far away, the San Pedro hermitage is another interesting visit. Built between 1706 and 1718, it is characteristic of the time (nice colonial plot renovated in 1986). You can also take a look at the Adiac Museum dedicated to indigenous culture (ceramics, statues): the natives themselves manage their own heritage, a happy precedent for all native cultures in the country. Open in week from 8 am to 12 pm and from 14 pm to 17 pm, Saturday morning only. Still in the Sutiaba district, you can go to the ruins of the church of Veracruz. Built in the second half of the 5 th century, the church is no more than stone walls and terracotta brick that is still m high. Some parts (rear wall of the presbytery, soil, columns) have been restored.
