Under the monument, many heroes of the Revolution now rest in peace. Admire the murals adjoining the central square, around the Monumento a los Caídos. This pyramid, the work of Gustavo Adolfo García, evokes the deaths of the heroes of the Sandinista revolution. The frescoes retrace Nicaragua's history in the form of pre-Columbian codices: indigenous revolts, the annihilation of their culture, independence, the struggle for university autonomy, against the Somozist dictatorship and with the hope of peace in the near future.
