The Peña de la Cruz, to the west of the town, rises to an altitude of 800 metres. The monk Agustín Morel de Santa Cruz is said to have planted this cross to prevent the hills from collapsing on the city (which was then subject to torrential rains and incessant landslides, and the symbolic mountain was to blame for all these ills)! Allow an hour to climb to the summit. On May 3, you won't be alone: on that day, thousands of pilgrims make the ascent (a mass is celebrated at the summit at 9am).
