This museum brings together pre-Columbian idols excavated in the region, more specifically in the Valle del Mayales and Garrobo Grande: basalt stone monsters, sometimes totemic in form, over 4 m high. The idols are dated between 800 and 1200 CE. Also on display are goldsmiths' and silversmiths' wares, a superb 87 cm-long metate (for pounding corn), ocarinas (flutes), polished stone and jade objects, and the bones of prehistoric mastodons.
